Happy Birthday to Me!

Hi Guys!

I know it's been awhile but I wanted to come through and update you all on what's been going on in my life. So much has happened and change since my last post in February. Some for the good and some for the bad, but all in all an experience. Next week is my 24th birthday so I've been spending the pat week reflecting just on the things that have happened during these past few months. I've decided to take the next semester off from Grad School to focus on myself and figure what it is I really want from this thing called life. When you're young everything is so easy and you don't have any clue as to what awaits you when you step out into the REAL WORLD. Your parents try to warn you to not be in a rush to grow up, but do we ever listen? Of course not, they're our parents, why would we start listening to them now. And then it happens! You graduate college and you ask yourself, "What am I going to do now?". For some of us that question is easy to answer. We have thought about and planned for this day so that we could avoid that very question. For others it is a smack in the face that hits you hard when your parents cut you off and you are no responsible for making sure that you have the basic necessities such as food and shelter. I know for me and my situation it definitely was a transition that was difficult to get use to but I'm making it. Everyday is still somewhat of a struggle for me to find the motivation to do the things that I want to do and be successful. But I know that I am capable of doing all things through the strength that my Lord and Saviours Jesus Christ enables me with. With that being said, I will continue to trot along this journey called life on a quest to find what truly makes Allyson happy. Blessings all and hopefully the next time we speak will be sooner.

Hi Guys,

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I've just been SUPER busy this past month finishing up this trimester of Grad School and staying on top of my classes. Any who, I hope to be able to post at least once a week.

Back to the reason for this post though. You guys, I miss my family. I haven't been home to NC since December before I left for the Caribbean for the holidays. Maybe I'm just being dramatic or a little spoiled, but when I want something or want to go somewhere I kind of can't let it go until it happens for me. I know some of you are thinking to your self, "chick, it's only February", but I just love my family that much and we're really close. My fiance' tries to be very understanding and accommodating for me and I really appreciate him for that because I can be a lot to handle. I think what I'm going to try and do is focus on other things going on in my life and maybe that will help with my sickness. We'll see how it goes.

Redtails

Hi Guys! 


Just wanted to share my thoughts about the new film Redtails that recently came out in theaters about the Tuskegee Airmen who flew during WWII.


It's so interesting to me how people say that this is the 1st time that this story is being told and people need to hear about it w/ regard to Redtails. I think it's a shame that the only way some African-Americans will ever know anything about our history is if they put it in a film. Maybe if more of us had paid attention during school or were fortunate enough to have family or community leaders that taught us about our history we wouldn't have to wait for a man named George Lucas to put out a film about 'our' history. This story has been told a million times over through film (The Tuskegee Airmen circa 1995) and books..but you know what they say about Black people and books. This is just my opinion though. Let me get back to trying to educate our children so we don't have to wait another 20 years for them to learn about who they are and what they come from.

But if you are wondering, I did go out and see the film so you all can't say I didn't "supoprt". lol

Epiphany

Hi guys,

Have you ever had a morning where you just didn't want to get out of bed? That is exactly how my morning went. We got snow last night in New England around 1am and by 8 am it had melted all away. Soo, when I woke up this morning and saw that gloomy overcast sky. The makings for a very slow day. However, I would like to note that I did get a lot of work done this morning for school. I am very proud of myself. Recently I have been letting the procrastination monkey get control of my life, but that is coming to and end NOW! I am taking back my power over my academic career and all things that are important to me in my life.

That was my rant for this evening. Hope you guys have had a WONDERFUL day! Please feel free to comment or leave suggestions for all of the post that I create on here.

Hi Loves!

So this evening my Boyfriend and I rented  Rise of the Planet of the Apes from Redbox and watched it. I LOVE James Franco as an actor and was excited to know that he was in this film. I love all things bringing together humans, animals, and someone taking over the world. For those of you who have not seen the film and intend to I don't want to spoil it for you, but let's just say that you find yourself rooting for Cesar (leader of the apes) and his army to out smart the human race. However as we were watching the film I kept asking myself, where are the female apes in this story? I'm positive that the Ape Kingdom consists of female species that are contributing to their society just as the males are. I'm almost positive that this story just as easily could have been about Cleopatra instead of Cesar. But that's just my opinion.
Every leader in history has had a woman by there side who has helped them takeover the world and in my opinion Cesar is no different. In fact, I would argue that if he did have a female influence many of the films storylines would have gone a different route. All in all I thought that the film was great and really humanized the use of apes as scientific experiments and what happens when things go wrong. I'm giving Planet of the Apes: Rise of the Apes a B+! It would have been an A if there was a female chimp by Cesars side to help him rule the land!

Happy Monday Everyone!

I want to take this time to reflect on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the impact that he has left on the society in which we live today. If it wasn't for Dr. King having a vision of what he wanted for not only people of color but for his own children; to live in a world where they would not be judged for the color of their skin but the content of their character; that we would have many of the freedoms and luxuries that we do. Dr. King was at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and wanted to see a change happen in America. When you have the opportunity, take some time out today to honor Dr. King by saying hello to someone on the street, or helping someone who is in need. That would truly be an honor to Dr. King and his Legacy.

Keeping up with the World

Hi Guys!

I Hope everyone had an AWESOME winter break and spent it with friends and loved ones. I enjoyed my vacation to the Caribbean to visit my boyfriends family in the Virgin Islands (Will be posting pics soon). Just wanted to let everyone know that I will begin posting regularly again and keeping you guys up to date with things that are going on.
